Awards event
The 2024 Medipex NHS Innovation Awards took place live, online on 13 March 2024.
The 16th Medipex Innovation Awards saw a collection of healthcare innovators from the NHS, universities, companies, charities, funders and innovation support organisations all came together online to celebrate the innovative achievements of our NHS colleagues from across the country. As well as a showcase of competition finalists, other highlights of the event included two keynote speeches, one from Dr Malte Gerhold, Director of Innovation and Improvement at The Health Foundation on ‘the five provocations of innovation in healthcare’ and the second from a previous Medipex Award winner Professor Opinder Sahota from Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, describing his innovation journey since winning the Medipex award in 2022.
The programme was interspersed with a series of engaging break-out sessions, hosted by some of our event supporters, on topics including child health innovation, the medical device innovation pathway, how to access funded support for business growth and how to get a product into healthcare services. A huge thank you to NIHR Children and Young People Medtech Co-operative, Medilink NOE, Innovate UK Business Growth and EEE Corp Group, for their helpful sessions.
Congratulations to all of our finalists and in particular our category winners from Provide Community Interest Company, Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust, Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and Rotherham, Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust for their winning entries.
We would like to give special thanks to the judging panel, made up of experts from Medipex Ltd., EEE Corp Group, Health Innovation Yorkshire and Humber, the NIHR Children and Young People Medtech Co-operative and Health Innovation North East and North Cumbria, who had a very challenging time in selecting the finalists from a pool of over 50 high-quality entries from 28 different lead organisations.
Medipex CEO Lindsay Georgopoulos says “We were so delighted to see over fifty really high quality entries this year, and it was really exciting that many of the competition entrants took the opportunity to submit a video as part of their application – this improved both the judging process and also the event itself, with delegates able to hear directly from the innovators. A huge thank you to everyone who took the time to enter, and congratulations to all of our finalists and winners”
A special congratulations must go to our prize winners, Nicki Barker from Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust with their innovation designed specifically for children to support diagnosis of Inducible Laryngeal Obstruction and Melanie Simmonds-Buckley from Rotherham, Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust with an innovation to improve treatment outcomes for individuals with depression and anxiety.
Thank you also to our bronze supporters Health Innovation Yorkshire and Humber, P3 Medical, Health Innovation North East and North Cumbria, Kirk Newsholme, Health Innovation Leeds
Medipex are looking forward to engaging with all of the award entrants to see how we can help them move their project forwards and increase the impact of their innovation.
